Job hunting

Last night I completed my first job application for our move to Nashville and surprisingly I really enjoyed it. After being laid off last March and spending five long months searching for and applying to jobs all across the country (over 600 at last count), I’ve been very apprehensive to begin this process again, but I’m almost ashamed to admit that it was exciting. Christina and I knew only that we we’re going to move when I was let go from Hargis last March and as we began to search for a new place to call home my job applications followed changing focus from city to city on what seemed a weekly basis. Putting the spotlight on Nashville created for me such a sense of purpose behind my application that in one night I crafted a better cover letter than the results of my previous five months of effort. The form provided by the unemployment office to log my job applications, once a tedious chore filled out under threat of audit, has now become a tool of inspiration as I track all the possible careers that may lie ahead. I’m sure that as our schedules fill with plans and the realization hits that we might not have jobs lined up before handing in our two weeks notice, the job applications will again seem like a chore but for now I’m enjoying the rush of possibility and looking forward to a fresh start.
