Weathering the weather

It's raining here in Seattle. Pouring actually. This is the time of year in the northwest that can play some serious mind games. The sun peeks out for a day, convincing you that summer is just around the corner, and then poof! It's all up in a cloud of Seattle gloom, wet Puget Sound wind and 50 degree temperatures. This usually goes on until July. Ah, the joys of soggy Seattle.
Meanwhile, the forecast in Nashville this week is sunny skies and temperatures warming into the mid-70s. Sunny and 75. In March. Doesn't it have a nice ring to it? Pure music to my ears. The idea of needing to tan and get a pedicure at this time of year is mind-boggling. Last year at this time I was summer primping to get ready for my anniversary trip to Mexico. Next year, it will just be a part of life as a southerner.
Even today, while out shopping with Matt, I spotted a pair of cute rain boots that I briefly considered. Four years ago, you wouldn't have caught me dead in rain boots. Now they're a sort of Northwest fashion must-have. Storm chic, if you will. But then I had to catch myself. I will be wearing sandals at this time next year. I will be wearing spring florals instead of winter wools at this time next year. And, best of all, I will be wearing a big smile as my Northwest friends and family soak in the sprinkles of rain while I kick back with my sweet tea in the sunshine. It is this image that helps me get through dreary days like today. I can't wait.
