Adventures of a Wandering Thirtysomething

As Christina said today was a day to put our toes in the water and asses in the sand. I actually went full on swimming while Christina to her credit did get up to her neck albeit for about 60 seconds and only to win the right to have me bring back lunch while she soaked in some sun. It was wonderful to have a little taste of the types of trips we do best, all I was missing was the bottomless smoothie. I’m writing this as I’m watching the laundry machine where I’ve just forked over roughly $15 for a single load. After two failed attempts at doing laundry in the sink and hanging our clothes to dry we’ve decided to just do it right. Last night I hiked up the mountain at sunset to get some photos of Vernazza and met a family doing the same from Washington. They both were Cougs but have been living the last 3 years in Germany where he’s stationed for the military. We swapped travel stories and frustrations over the struggles of a young couple, who still have this crazy idea that a parent should stay home with their kids, trying to make it work in western Washington. This is an ideal I quickly learned was not possible when a friend and coworker of mine at Hargis had her second child and was back to work in roughly 8 weeks. It’s weird to be halfway across the planet and not really have a home waiting for us when we get back, just a cat who is hopefully opening up to his grandma, but I’m constantly reminded that this trip across Europe is really just the beginning of a much larger adventure that awaits us.
