As travel snafus go, Christina and I have yet to encounter a problem which has resulted in a disrupted itinerary. Sometimes this has required us to buy our way out of trouble, like when we opted to board a train in Paris without a reservation, choosing to risk the fine instead of waiting for a next day departure. After simply being required to pay for the first class cabin we found ourselves seated in, we learned that money can certainly solve some problems.

But there was no amount of money gonna help us get to Lima.

What should have been a stress-free, 3-hour layover in Dallas, turned into mechanical problems and delays in Spokane and even longer delays on the ground in Dallas. All of this resulted in us sprinting a half mile through the Dallas airport and arriving at our gate past the departure time of our flight to Lima. Despite having lost any hope that we would make our flight, Christina’s many prayers were answered as we managed to sneak in just before the door closed. Our saving grace keeping that flight at the gate, a delayed food cart.

Lungs burning, mouth tasting of blood and looking at a couple of days without our luggage we were in disbelief to be sitting on our flight. Once again, we had kept our streak intact, and we wouldn’t have to miss a wonderful Sunday exploring the quiet streets and parks of Lima.

If you’ve ever been to Lima you may be asking yourself, “what quiet streets?” Later, we would learn the reason for your skepticism, but thanks to our Sunday arrival, Lima appeared to be a beautiful, livable city. We enjoyed an incredible brunch, walked the coastline in Miraflores through the sprawling park, and tried out our Spanish while people watching in Plaza de Armas. It was a beautiful day and the perfect intro to our Peru adventure, the only spoiler, the aroma coming off my 2-day old clothing.
