The county fair

Remember a couple years back when Oprah and Gayle took a road trip to the Texas State Fair, ate deep fried butter, and whooped it up with all the toothless wonders in ten gallon hats? Well, it’s that time of year again, my friends. You can’t truly have summer in the South until you’ve seen every prize winning pig and deep fried your arteries into oblivion at the county or state fair.Unfortunately, I’m too busy dealing with other redneck things (known as NASCAR) to visit our county fair this year and regale you with hilarious stories and equally hilarious photos (for a sampling of what I missed, simply visit peopleofwalmart.com). But I got a delightful treat a few weeks back when the 100+ page Wilson County Fair directory arrived in my mailbox.
As you can probably imagine, I flipped through that thing as ravenously as I flip through my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale preview catalog. Pages upon pages of how to enter your livestock, your chili recipe, your pie recipe, your banjo pickin’ kid, and anything else you could possibly conceive of for a prize, plus when and where you can see all the D-list country stars you haven’t heard on the radio since 1993.
I’ve included a small sampling here of the directory for your enjoyment. Y’all come down to the country fair now, ya hear?
