Style for 2,500 miles

So, all this talk about changing my life has really made me think about changing my look. Big life events can do that to a girl. Ditch a man, get a new haircut. Leave a job, get a new wardrobe. Lose a loved one, clean out the house. So, it comes as no surprise that launching a sojourn across the country would drive me to do all three. It started with something as innocent as cleaning out my closet, and turned into a full-blown, InStyle magazine consulting, fashion blog following, internet browsing overhaul of my style. Maybe it’s that I recently changed jobs and no longer need to be news camera-ready professional, or that I’m actually turning 26 and no longer need to fake that I’m 26, but something inside me snapped and the desire to purge my old stuffy corporate self and try on a newer, trendier, more fun self overcame me. So now, three huge shopping bags full of clothes and shoes to give away later, I am armed with a list of the latest trends and an excitement to hit all the shopping that Seattle’s Greater Eastside has to offer. And, just to make sure that I’m rockin’ the right stuff in Nashville, I’ve been consulting their local fashionistas. Those Southern sisters are surprisingly stylish! No rain slickers, Tevas or anything that even remotely looks like it’s from REI. Praise the Lord! I should have no trouble channeling my inner Southern belle. The hair will be soon to follow the fashion. To cut or not to cut? Bangs or no bangs? Decisions, decisions. I may not have the accent, the debutante status, or the big blonde hair, but at least this Seattle girl will be lookin’ good when she rolls into town.
