Adventures of a Wandering Thirtysomething

It’s been so long since I’ve posted, you’ve probably started to wonder if our twenty-something adventures had us wandering straight off the face of the earth. Not quite. Oh, we’ve been wandering alright. Wandering around Lowe’s, Home Depot and countless furniture stores. But we finally moved out of our apartment and into our new home this past Saturday, and despite the mounds of boxes that remain to be unpacked, I think it’s safe to say the MIA status is finally lifted.

If you’ve ever moved to a new city, owned/lived in two houses simultaneously, had one spouse working full time and another searching for and interviewing for jobs, and had your vehicles require repairs every week for two months straight, you can probably empathize with the lack of blogging.

Not that I’m complaining. We signed up for every bit of this craziness. But we’re probably due for a VerHeul Rally to Restore Sanity. On more than one recent occasion we’ve had a “Remember before we moved and before we went to Europe and before we spent a whole year researching and planning our move and trip to Europe and before we job searched for months and before you were in grad school?” conversation. It’s hard to even remember what we used to do back then, but I’m pretty sure it involved a lot of relaxing – a word that we would like to re-introduce back into our vocabulary as soon as possible. And, in case there was any question about it with the new house purchase and all, babies are not invited to the rally.

Despite the need for a little R&R, as we head into the Christmas weekend and New Year, I can’t help but be thankful for all that has happened over the past year. Time and time again we’ve seen the incredible workings of the Lord in things large and small. He moved mountains when they seemed impossible to traverse, made our paths straight when they twisted into unfamiliar territory, and protected us as we explored more than 20,000 miles of His great earth. And he gave us the most incredible family and friends who helped us, encouraged us, supported us and never let us forget how much they didn’t approve of our leaving. =)
