Adventures of a Wandering Thirtysomething

Life is starting to get a little boring. We’ve been in one place for a full four weeks, which is the longest in several months we’ve called somewhere home. We’ve quit jobs, traveled to Europe, moved across the country and started new jobs, but that’s getting ho-hum. So we figured we should mix it up again…and buy a house.

Surprised? Not nearly as surprised as us! Here’s the story…

When we got to Nashville, it was only natural to begin exploring the city and the suburbs, check out communities that interested us, and look at a couple houses. It’s sort of what you do when you move. But then last weekend we got the brilliant idea to check out Mt. Juliet, a suburb about 20 minutes east of Nashville, and God had a good laugh at our “wait until Matt has a job and buy a house in 6-8 months” plan. We pulled up to an incredible house listed at an incredible price and did what any other normal person would do – get a Realtor and buy the stinkin’ thing before anyone else could even think to do the same.

Anyone who knows us knows we are about the least spontaneous or compulsive people ever. We research endlessly. We wait, and wait, and wait some more. We talk to everyone we possibly can about our thought process. We network. We pray. We learn everything there ever could be to learn about something and then maybe, just maybe, we act.

And then there was the house.
 
Acting on instinct is incredibly uncomfortable when you’re not used to it. At first we were on a complete adrenaline high and couldn’t sleep or concentrate for days. Then we shifted into buyer’s remorse, also known as “what in the heck are we doing?!” Finally, after an hour today spent touring some comps, we are at complete peace. We made the right choice. And we are officially in love with our dream first house.
